How Much Does It Cost to Build an MVP in 2025? Real Numbers, No BS

How Much Does It Cost to Build an MVP in 2025? Real Numbers, No BS
April 8, 20258 min read

Every founder wants to know: 'How much will my MVP cost?' And every agency gives the same useless answer: 'It depends.' Here are actual numbers from 40+ MVPs we've built or advised on in the last two years, broken down by complexity tier so you can budget realistically.

Tier 1: Landing Page MVP ($1,500–5,000). This isn't a product — it's a validation tool. A beautifully designed landing page that explains your value proposition, collects email signups, and maybe has a waitlist or early access form. Tech: Next.js + Tailwind + Resend for emails + Vercel hosting. Timeline: 1–2 weeks. When to use this: you have a hypothesis but zero validation. Spend the minimum to test demand before building anything.

Tier 2: Simple Web App MVP ($5,000–15,000). A functional application with: user authentication, a core workflow (3–5 screens), a database, and basic admin capabilities. Examples: a booking system, a simple marketplace listing page, a content management tool, a survey/form builder. Tech: Next.js + Supabase (auth + database) + Vercel. Timeline: 3–6 weeks. This is where most B2B SaaS MVPs should start — enough functionality to onboard 10–50 beta users and get real feedback.

Tier 3: Full-Featured MVP ($15,000–35,000). A production-ready application with: multiple user roles, payment processing, real-time features (chat, notifications), third-party integrations (Stripe, email providers, analytics), responsive design, and proper error handling. Examples: a SaaS platform with subscription billing, a two-sided marketplace with messaging, a project management tool. Tech: Next.js + Supabase + Stripe + various APIs. Timeline: 6–12 weeks.

Tier 4: Complex Platform MVP ($35,000–75,000). Multi-tenant SaaS, AI-powered features, complex data pipelines, mobile app + web app, or marketplace with sophisticated matching algorithms. Examples: an AI-powered hiring platform, a fintech application with compliance requirements, a logistics platform with real-time tracking. Tech: Next.js + PostgreSQL + Redis + AI APIs + mobile (React Native or PWA). Timeline: 3–6 months. At this tier, you should have validated demand (Tier 1 or 2) and have funding.

What drives the cost up. The features that silently inflate MVP budgets: (1) Custom design — using a UI library (shadcn/ui, Radix) saves $2,000–5,000 vs custom design from scratch. (2) Multiple user roles — every additional role adds authentication logic, permission systems, and separate dashboards. (3) Real-time features — WebSocket connections, live updates, and collaborative editing are 3–5x more complex than CRUD operations. (4) Third-party integrations — each API integration takes 2–5 days including error handling and edge cases. (5) Admin panel — founders forget this, but someone needs to manage users, content, and data.

How to cut costs without cutting corners. (1) Use pre-built auth (Supabase Auth, Clerk, NextAuth) instead of building your own — saves 1–2 weeks. (2) Use component libraries (shadcn/ui) instead of custom design — saves 1–3 weeks. (3) Skip the mobile app — build a responsive web app or PWA first. (4) Manual before automated — handle edge cases manually until you have enough volume to justify automation. (5) Ship without admin panel — use Supabase dashboard or a tool like Retool for internal operations initially.

The offshore advantage for MVPs. The same Tier 2 MVP that costs $12,000 with a US agency costs $4,000–6,000 with a quality Indian agency like ours. The same Tier 3 MVP goes from $30,000 to $10,000–15,000. At the MVP stage, this cost difference is transformative — it's the difference between burning your savings on one bet vs having budget for two or three iterations. And iterations are what make MVPs successful, not getting it right the first time.
